The play was an adaptation of R. L. Stevenson’s novel “The strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”, set in the London of 2025. The plot was faithful to the original text: it followed the investigation conducted by Mr. Utterson and Dr. Lanyon about the strange behaviour of their friend Dr. Jekyll, who had begun to disappear at night and had changed his will, in favour of a certain Mr. Edward Hyde. The latter, in fact, started to terrorise London simultaneously to Jekyll’s rapid change.
The students were very passionate about the development of the story and followed actively the changing thoughts of Jekyll, together with his risky decision of experimenting on himself. The already professional acting was enriched by astonishing special effects, created with LED lights and smoke machines, especially in the final scene.
At the end of the play, students were offered the opportunity to debate with the actors and everybody immediately engaged in a stimulating conversation, in which the actors fulfilled all the doubts and questions raised by the audience.
The show left the students very content as it represented an opportunity to learn English in an alternative, funny and interactive way, with the actors engaging the audience multiple times during the musical and answering all the questions the students raised at the end of the show.
