From January 14th to 16th 2025, a wide group of students from IISTelesi@ took part in the 11th edition of IMUN (Italian Model United Nations), an educational project that simulates the work of the United Nations, Providing opportunities for young people to learn about global issues and develop key skills.
IMUN is an international simulation involving high school students from all over Italy.
During the event, we stepped into the role of UN delegates, representing a member country working in specific committees, discussing and proposing solutions on global issues.
Topics addressed this year included: Biosafety (UNEP), Fast fashion (ECOFIN), Nuclear weapons (IAEA), Discrimination and ethics (SOCHUM), War crimes related to gender-based violence (DISEC),Discrimination development through the education of young girls (CCPCJ).
We worked hard with passion and enthusiasm to prepare for the event. After studying the files provided and the procedure, we tested and then improved our public speaking and diplomatic skills, approaching the debate with great commitment and determination. During the sessions, we provided significant contributions, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the issues and a remarkable mastering of the English language too.
The final day, was entirely devoted to the award ceremony for the most distinguished delegates who won the “Honourable mention” for the various innovative motions they had proposed. Different students of our school received this title, four just in our class 3L1: Di Mauro Valentina, Mennillo Tina, Pigna Angela and Scetta Martina but thanks to the serious and motivated presence and participation of all the students, we all won together a school prize too as “Best huge delegation”.
Over the long days of discussions and compromises, a network of relationships developed that goes beyond the institutional roles. Delegates worked side by side to build alliances aimed at solving global conflicts, and in this intense process of debating, a deep spirit of collaboration emerged. Those who were initially just peers became journey companions, sharing not only the successes but also the difficulties, giving birth to bonds destined to last over time.
This experience allowed us to develop not only academic and language skills, but also a profound sense of global citizenship and a deep awareness of international challenges. Back to school, we brought with us a treasure of knowledge and unforgettable memories, enriched by an experience that widely contributed to our personal growth and training.
A special thanks goes to the entire IMUN 2025 commission.
